Recipe: Crab apple and chilli chutney

Crab apples are in season, and there’s no better way to make use of them than with this sweet and spicy crab apple and chilli chutney!


Packed with tangy crab apples, fiery red chillies, and the warmth of fresh ginger and turmeric, this chutney is perfect for pairing with cheese, meats, or as a tasty spread.


It’s simple to make and a great way to preserve the flavours of autumn. Get your jars ready and enjoy this delicious seasonal treat!




Ingredients:

  • 500g crab apples (chopped)

  • 1 brown onion (diced)

  • 200ml apple cider vinegar

  • 170g light brown soft sugar

  • 1 inch fresh ginger (grated)

  • 2tsp turmeric

  • 3 red chillies (deseeded and chopped)


Method:

1. Add all the ingredients to a large pan.

2. Bring to a simmer, then reduce the heat.

3. Cook for around an hour, stirring occasionally, until most of the liquid has evaporated.

4. Pour the chutney into sterilised jars and seal.


Enjoy with cheese, meats, or as a tangy spread!
